About
When COVID hit the UK, the job I was in pretty much disappeared overnight. I quickly realised my work experience was all in that one sector, so I had to think about what else I actually enjoyed and where I could go from there.
It came down to two things I’ve always liked: logic and creativity. I wanted something where I could use both every day. Web development turned out to be the perfect mix — coding challenges my logical side, and designing and building sites brings out my creative side too.
Since I didn’t have any qualifications in tech, I went back to education to get the skills I needed.

In June 2024, I was offered a position as junior web developer. Since then, I’ve grown into managing projects from first ideas through to launch.
- Able to use new tools and best practices to improve the way sites are built
- Meet with clients and understand their goals to reach the final outcome
- Collaborate with designers to turn ideas into finished sites
- Able to deal with technical problems and troubleshoot
- Optimise SEO, speed and performance
- Building and updating websites
- Customise themes and plugins
I use WordPress and Joomla a lot, so I’ve become comfortable setting up themes, building custom layouts, tweaking plugins, and writing custom code when the standard options don’t quite fit. I also spend time making sure sites are responsive and perform well on different devices and screen sizes.
A big part of my job is problem-solving. Sometimes that means fixing unexpected technical issues, other times it’s figuring out how to bring a client’s idea to life in a way that actually works in practice. I handle tasks like basic SEO setup, speed and performance improvements, and making sure sites are secure and up to date.
I also enjoy the collaborative side — working with designers to match the visuals to the technical side, testing with team members, and explaining to clients how to use and update their sites once they’re live.
All of this has helped me build a good balance of technical skill, creative thinking, and the confidence to manage a project through every stage — from the first conversation to handing over a site that does exactly what the client needs.
